Now this is real

Ok, I have not touched this blog in six months. Now it is time to get serious.
I am in full training mode for the marathon and about to launch my full fundraising campaign for Dana Farber.

I am learning that training for the Boston Marathon is as much about dealing with winter in New England as it is about following the training schedule. I have had to move hard workouts to parking lots because of ice and snow and had to cut a long run short because of a stiff wind.
Some days it is a drag getting out of bed at five thiry, leaving for my run in the dark. But those days, the sun rises during my run and it all seems worth it. Other days, I'll run after work and in my first few strides out of the parking lot at work, all the stress just seems to melt away. Nevermind that at the end of some runs, I have to melt the ice out of my beard or that on some days I wear a third sock, Red Hot Chili Pepper style to help stay warm where it counts.
When I run, whether I am plugged into an iPod or not, I am free.

Speaking of which, I am typing this about thiry minutes before I have to go and put in 12-14 miles. The sun is out, the wind is still and the snow and ice are melting. Should be a great day for a run.

For any other runners out there, put this on your iPod and run to it: "Search and Destroy" by Iggy and the Stooges.

As always, please support my run by donating to Dana Farber. Click on the links! and thank you.
